In 2019, before my trip to Greece, I read "The Story of the Greeks" by Natsuo Kirino, which included a passage about the conflict between the Persian Empire and the Greek city-states. It narrated the story of Pausanias, a young warrior from Sparta. Pausanias was a rare individual in Sparta, as he possessed both the wisdom of Athenians and the bravery of Spartan warriors. With his intelligence and courage, he commanded the Spartan army and collaborated with the allied forces during the Battle of Plataea. They successfully defeated the Persian army, and this battle is considered one of the most significant victories in the Greek War of Independence. However, Pausanias' actions later became controversial. It is said that he displayed excessive curiosity towards the Persian Empire and attempted to form an alliance with the Persian royal family, which displeased Sparta. Additionally, he was accused of corruption and abusing his authority. Ultimately, Pausanias' actions were deemed treasonous by the Spartan council, and he was recalled to Sparta to stand trial. However, on his way back, Pausanias sought refuge in a temple, where he was granted protection, and no one was allowed to harm him. He eventually starved to death in the temple. After my journey in Greece, I adopted a British Shorthair cat and named it Pausanias. In my belief, courage and justice are everlasting, and I strive to always pay attention to the vulnerable who need to be seen and help them. I aspire to create inspiring works and use my humble strength to speak out against injustice.
